Nana and Papa's Whirlwind Visit

Nana and Papa came to visit on their route from Texas to Wyoming.  We planned it perfectly around a very full weekend and following week of activities.  They had numerous opportunities to spend time with the boys and see Oliver in several activities such as T-Ball, Football and his end of year school program.  We had a great visit and it was fun to have them hear for a bit of the Ham Fam chaos.

Nana and Papa arrived on Saturday and on Saturday morning, Oliver was working on an erector set project.  He got to a point where he needed help but since Keith and I were busy preparing for our guests, we encouraged Oliver to ask Papa for help when they arrived.  It didn't take long for Oliver to pull the erector set out to the patio where Papa was sitting and ask for help.  They had a great time finishing off Oliver's erector set project.

By this time, our prepping work was complete, so Daddy could just sit back and relax while Papa and Oliver built the erector set.
Nana brought a fun yard game, that also served as a rock collecting tool.

Sunday morning, these two cuddle bugs were found on the coach, snuggled around Daddy's iPad.  We said that they couldn't watch a show on the TV because we were visiting with Nana and Papa, but they were resourceful enough to take care of business and find a work around themselves.

Sunday afternoon was Oliver's grand finale championship game in Flag Football.  You've seen the post on their BIG WIN, but if you haven't, click here.
Kellan took full advantage of Nana being there and snuggled up in her lap while Daddy and Papa cheered from the back row and Mommy was up and down cheering and snapping photos.
Cherry season is upon us, and so is messy cherry faces and fingers.
Sunday afternoon called for a big bowl of guacamole.
YUM!
Daddy had two helpers (or critiques) in the kitchen.
Look at those expressions.
Oliver seems to be in disbelief (his Mother has NEVER given his Father that look.  NEVER, EVER!)
Kellan looks a bit afraid of the potential outcome.
Going in for an early sample.
Oliver has positive anticipation while Kellan isn't sure that it's edible.
Survey Says???
Kellan is still wondering if he is willing to brave it.
"Well, one chip can't hurt too much"
"Ewww!  Do I really have to dip the chip?"
"Ok folks, I'm going in!"
"Ugh, I think I got some on my finger."
"Hmm... this doesn't look too bad.  Look how nicely it scoops onto the chip."
Going for it.
"I hope I survive this"
Kellan: "Hey Daddy, it's not half bad"
Oliver "It's torture.  I can't.. eat... just... one!"
Holy Moly Guacamole!
Two Thumbs Up.
YUM!!
After dinner, we took advantage of finally having 70 degree weather and greenery and took a walk / bike ride.

We LOVE that THIS is what we see when we walk through our neighborhood.
Kellan was sure to keep Nana safe while crossing the street by holding her hand.
Back home, we took some time to stop and smell the flowers.
Oliver REALLY Loved the tulip smell.
This reminds me of a story that my Mom (Grandma) tells me of when she had to fish flower pedals out of my nose when I was about two.  They smelled SO good that I had them all of the way up my nose.  Maybe I just know a good thing when I smell it and I want it to last forever.
On Wednesday, Oliver had a VERY full Day.
First up, he played hooky from school to play golf with Daddy, Papa and Nana.
For days, he talked about finding balls with Papa.  He was especially excited that he got to keep the balls that he found and that Papa had a special tool for fishing balls out of the water.
The final tally was six balls for his keeping.
Daddy bought a breakfast burrito for them to share and rumor has it that Oliver at the WHOLE thing!!

I'm confident that I have sailed a few golf balls into this pond.
Papa happy to be out with his Son and Grandson.
Wednesday afternoon was a big one.
On the agenda:
4:00 Primrose Memorial Day Program for Oliver's class
5:00 Spring Fling with Taco Bar dinner and Silent Auction
6:00 T-ball game

Whew!

The Memorial Day program was fantastic.  We had front row seats!!  Perfect to see everything.  Of course, we sat on the left and Oliver ended up on the right.
We have a video, but I think that it is fantastic enough that it deserves it's own blog post.  Until then, here are a few snap shots of our patriotic super star.

After the program with Mommy and Daddy
We were SO SO SO Proud of him!!
While we waited for the Spring Fling to begin, we spotted Kellan on his playground.
It was fun to watch him play without us noticing.
Then... he stopped... looked... looked puzzled... then realized we were there.
He quickly jumped the fence (with the teachers help) and came to see us.
Oliver quickly took him to his playground.
It was fascinating and adorable to watch him protect his little brother amongst all of the big kids.
Ironically, Kellan was nearly as big (if not bigger) than some of the "big kids".  Sometimes we forget that he's only two.

Clearly, there was a big debate brewing.
It must have been getting good.  See how Oliver's grip tightens on Kellan.
Then, it's all good and a tad more casual.
Clearly, whatever was so exciting to discuss was no longer of interest to Oliver's friend.
So off Oliver and Kellan went to play and they paused for a photo for Mommy.
Later, it was Taco Time!
Kellan insisted on carrying his own plate.
Outside, it was SO bright that the boys had to wear shades.

Kellan, desperately trying to get Daddy's shades to work.
Mmmmmm  Big Bite!
The Show was a big hit and the silent auction turned out a success as we won the artwork from Kellan's class.  It will make a nice addition to the play room.

Then, we were off.

Time for T-ball!
Lucky for Papa, Kellan wore his work hat to the game and Papa borrowed it to shade his head from the sun.  I guess you never know when a soft t-ball will come sailing your way and you'll need your foam hard hard to protect you.
IN COMING!
Apparently, the ground is not comfortable enough for this guy.  Mommy is MUCH more comfortable than the hard ground.
Oliver had a great game.
This was scheduled to be the last game of the season but due to all of the rain outs, they had a few more to play the next week.
On our way out; Owen, Kellan and Oliver found this big tire to sit upon.
Remember when all you needed was a big tire and a few buddies for a great time?

Whew!
We made it!
It was a whirlwind of activity and on Thursday morning Nana and Papa said goodbye and headed north to Sheridan, but not until we got one last photo.
Thanks for coming to see us Nana and Papa and coming along on our crazy ride.

Keith's bowl of guacamole will never, ever be big enough. For Christmas, I'm going to get him a fifty-gallon drum. For when we visit. I'm just saying.
