Corn Dogs, Funnel Cake, Ice Cream, Bucking, Barrels, Roping and Rodeo Queens, OH MY!

Think back... WAY back...
Last January we took the boys to the National Western Stockshow and for two hours, Oliver coughed and hacked from asthma in the dusty indoor arena.  At that time, we promised him that we would go to an outdoor rodeo in the summertime.
For years, we have driven past an arena near green mountain with a big sign on the hill that says RODEO.  Thanks to some help from our friends at Google, we discovered that was the location of the Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo and the Rodeo was one night only in August.  We marked our calendars!  We had planned to take both boys but after our First Friday fiasco with Kellan, we called on the babysitter for a date night with Kellan and we took Oliver for a date night with Mommy and Daddy.  The evening was much like Templeton's Smorgasbord in Charlottes Web.  Do you recall?  Templeton was the rat who was encouraged to go to the fair because of the leftover food?  We did our part to partake in the yummy fair food but for the Templeton's out there, we didn't leave a morsel behind.  Oliver and I both LOVE fair corn dogs.  It doesn't get much better.
As 7:00 approached, so did the rain.  We watched the rain move North to South and the crowd moved East to West to find shelter under the bleacher awning.  As the rain slowed down, the Westineers rode out under a double rainbow.
The rodeo arena with the fair in the background.
Oliver kept his eyes on the show and his lips on the lemonde.
The bareback riders getting ready to come flying out of the shoots.
Corn Dogs, Lemonade and FUNNEL CAKE!!!
Oliver wasn't quite sure what to expect when we told him we would get funnel cake once his corn dog was gone.  I think that we etched a permanent memory with this one and he will not soon forget what funnel cake is.  In case you don't know, funne cake is 100% pure YUM!

At some point the clown provided a magic show for the audience.  He jumped in a box so a magician could cut the box in half with a chain saw.  Then, the clown's pants came running out without the top half!  (it was a kid with pants pulled up over his head)  Oliver was shocked and amazed at what was happening.  Since he takes things so literally we explained that it was just for entertainment and the clown was OK.  It took him a while to believe us but eventually he decided it was funny.
As the rodeo went on and one the ferris wheel kept beging Oliver for a visit.  We eventualy headed over to the ferris wheel, bought tickets for the three of us (Mommy and Daddy cringed at the $12 price tag for 3 occupants) and we jumped on board.  Oliver LOVED it!!!
The ferris wheel had buckets instead of benches so Daddy sat on the other side.
What a great night!!  Rodeo, ferris wheel. bright lights and...
Rodeo Queens!!!
Oliver was SO shy!!!  We told him that someday he'll hope and wish that the rodeo queens will talk to him.  Maybe we are wrong and his wit and charm will always draw them in.
Oh yes... there was ice cream.
While Mommy was paying WAY to much money for a sweatshirt (the rain brought the cool temperatures) Oliver was asking for ice cream.
Who are we to deny Oliver Ice Cream after he ate all of his dinner and dessert?  Maybe it's the reward for an awesome attitude when his little brother cuts his fun short.  Maybe it's that his Mommy and Daddy were secretly re-living their youth through their son.  Of course we had to tell him how when we were kids were would have never gotten corn dogs, lemonade, funnel cake AND ice cream!!!
