It's hard to believe that another new school year has arrived and Oliver is starting Pre-K II.
The original plan at the original Primrose was for Oliver to move to Primrose Kindergarten this year since he's a tad shy of the age cut off for public Kindergarten. However, with our new Primrose, they follow the Jefferson County age guidelines for Kindergarten. Instead, they offer Pre-K I and II. Pre-K II is structured for kiddos like Oliver who miss the cut-off for Kindergarten but are ready for the next big challenge. I have observed the teacher and she is excellent. We think that Oliver will really excel with her this year. He has already informed us that he will learn things that even we don't know. We can't wait to learn right along with our little smarty pants!
It's hard to believe how much Oliver has grown in just one short year. Sometimes, I think he hasn't changed too much. Then, I looked back at last years photo. Wow! Our little boy is really growing and maturing. As he put on his Primrose shirts from last spring I realized that it's time to buy the next size. He is currently in an XS and he needs to move up to a Small. That will be two sizes bigger than his original size of 2XS.
Oliver was very excited for his first day of Pre-K II. He was moving with the majority of his Pre-K I class that he has spent the summer field tripping around town with.
Kellan was not quite sure why the photos were for his brother only, so he stepped in for one. Had I known that Oliver had closed his eyes I would have taken a second shot, however, Kellan was a 10 second wonder and wasn't sticking around for photo #2.
In the classroom, we took the traditional photo in front of his backpack hook. He was SO excited!!!
Since we have moved schools, I'm not sure if the backpack rack is the same height. I suspect it is as every building is standard to Primrose specs. It is at least very very close. Check out the height this Pre-K II guy has gained! Must be all of that broccoli paying off!
For breakfast, the Pre-K II kids had to go to the kindergarten classroom. This was also the beginning of the end of a great morning. The classroom was a big chaotic with two classrooms of kids, teachers and parents. It was loud, crazy and new. Oliver didn't want to eat, he didn't want to play, he didn't want to be there. Even with his Daddy making small talk with another classmate, he wasn't happy. We left him with a sad look on his face and tears in his eyes. It about broke his Mamas heart.
After school his teacher informed me that he had a GREAT day and warmed up as soon as they moved to their own classroom. I had worried about him all day and fortunately, he was perfectly fine. The next day was more of the same. I saw the teacher in the hallway and she let me know that she wasn't happy with the morning craziness either. By the third morning, the Pre-K II class started their day with breakfast in their own classroom. In that classroom, Oliver found his BIG morning appetite and it was smiles all around. Whew! We're back to a good thing.
That afternoon, the boys and I went outside for some fresh air and vitamin D. (Daddy was in Houston for work.) Kellan had gotten water on his shirt, which he is not a fan of, so off it came. In celebration of a hard day at school, we took his farmer tan outside.
Oliver thought it sounded cool to be shirtless so he joined in. (This was after the shock of the idea. Hmm... maybe we shelter our boys too much and should let them be boys more often? Something to consider? In the meantime, I'll blame it on their fair skin.)
Oliver got a new airplane at the party store. It is one of those $ .49 airplanes that comes complete with a rubber band and a launch stick.
He shoots it over and over and over again.
Each time getting a bit higher or farther away.
Sometimes, it even does twist and turns in the sky.
Oliver loves this airplane. We tell him that he'll love it even more when he sees the real thing perform in the sky at the air show in September.
Kellan has an airplane too but it hasn't lived as pleasant of a life; twisting, twirling and soaring through the air. Instead, he flies it the old fashion way... with a good launch from his arm.
Sometimes, Kellan's airplane does twists and turns as well, but not by free will.
Back at the house the boys curled up in the chair together. These two are truly peas in a pod that love each other dearly.
I'm not sure that you could get much cuter than this. Even their farmer tans get "how cute" comments from neighbors passing by.
Here's to another school year kicked off in hopes of a fabulous year ahead!
