As spring spun on, so did our mad sports schedule. At the beginning of this mad sports schedule season, we wondered what on earth we were thinking signing up two boys for three sports. Two boys, two sports, that should have been enough. Then... about mid season, Oliver started to sprout his baseball skills. As we were exhausted from the schedules we were keeping, we were fueled by Oliver and Kellans growth in their team sports.
Oliver went from striking out to hitting every time he was at bat.
He went from missing balls to scooping them up enough to be referred to as the vacuum. This kids has some eye hand coordination that fell from the sky when the stars and moon aligned when he was born. That combined with extreme focus and determination is an athletic match made in heaven. It's a pure joy to watch.
Team sports are important for so many reasons, including taking coaching from your peers.
Batter Up!
S-WING Batter!
As Oliver stood on first base, he watched the assistant coach (AKA Daddy) feed balls into the machine that would sling them at the plate 40 miles per hour. That's right, no soft balls for these boys.
40 MPH or Bust!
There was a hit so Oliver took off for Second.
We will always be thankful for the soccer coach who came to Primrose when Oliver was only 2-3 years old and taught him how to run. Check out that kids form!
Whew! Safe!
Who said baseball was just a bunch of standing around. There are bases to be run when your team hits as well as the Redhawks do.
I like how the baseman gazes to see Oliver blow past third.
Taking it home for another Redhawks point.
Debating moves with the Assistant Coach, who looks an awful lot like his Daddy.
Ready for the runners.
Scoopin' up the ball.
Still getting coaching from his teammates. Win or loose, their in it together.
As the Redhawks played on, Kellan continued to watch Wild Kratz on his favorite app, PBS Kids. Someone actually thought that I was taking photos of him sleeping. No way! He was learning about snakes, alligators, skunks or some other fascinating creature of the wild.
Then... the rain came in. With no umbrella in site, the blanket became a shelter.
Rain or shine, the Redhawks played on and Oliver was as handsome as ever.
The team that they played was the toughest so far. They came in all sizes from a tad shorter...
... to a mile taller.
Even Oliver seemed to notice the extra height on this kid.
Back at back, he gave the ball another whack.
The Redhawks gave it there best shot, but they took home their first loss by one point. Considering the size and skills of the other team, our boys held their own.
Win or loose, this guy will always be a winner to us.
We love you big guy and we're so proud of how far you've come!
