After a few days of enjoying sunshine and summer weather in Steamboat, the clouds and rain moved in while the temperature dropped. This may have put a damper on our plans but they didn't change them. We still headed for the hills of Buffalo Pass in search of some hiking and mountain lakes. As an added bonus, we found a patch of snow, which made a miniature snowball fight fair game.
Owen, Oliver and Kellan enjoying some fresh mountain air.
With all of the spring and early summer rain we had, the wildflowers were plentiful and amazing.
It wouldn't be a trip the woods without Kellan peeing on a tree.
Eric hauled up the fishing gear and hooked the boys up.
Kellan didn't know it, but he was striking poses on a rock. I found him to be quite adorable so I took a gazillion photos.
Eric and Jennie were quite adorable too.
Love these three peas in a pod.
Owen, Kellan and Oliver
Kellan and Mommy enjoying a squat on a rock.
Oliver was super excited to catch the first fish.
Keith was on a mission to light a fire.
It's always tough to share one fishing pole with three boys, but these three did a great job of managing the process.
Kellan had the honor of reeling in the second fish. He was super excited but didn't want to hold it.
After the rain came in, we moved out to another lake and rock outcropping. The Ham Fam perched upon a few rocks as Eric go the fishing gear ready.
Papa brought a book to kick back, relax and catch up on some mountain reading.
We bought a new (to us) car this spring, and we brought her up the rocky roads for the first time ever. She handled very well and we loved it!
Jennie brought out the big guns.
Keith was still on his mission to build a fire. The bugs were plentiful and we thought a fire would help to keep them away. He had to get creative with his endeavor.
Hurry.. hurry..
Kellan continued to dazzle us with his adorable grin.
Oliver was all business when it came to fishing.
Mission still in progress...
The fire never did start. The wind was a little too brisk.
The rain continued to come in, so we finally bailed and called it a day.
Rain or shine, Margaritas are always a great idea.
Smooches are always a great idea too.
The boys stayed at the condo with Gami and Papa for movie night while the "big kids" went out for dinner.
Eric, Jennie, Carrie and Keith
Since the boys and Grandparents were well taken care of and happy at home, we decided to try one more place for a cocktail.
Another fantastically fun day in the books. We are LOVING Steamboat!

1. I'm a little jealous of that gigantic camera lens.
2. I'm incredibly disappointed that the mountain man couldn't start a fire with the jumper cables. I thought I raised him better than that!
