Games with Grandma

On Sunday of Grandma and Grandpa's visit it rained.  It didn't just rain, it poured!  We went from wearing t-shirts the day before to wearing long sleeves and sweaters, which is typical of springtime in Colorado. The bummer was that we were super excited for the boys flag football game and for Grandma and Grandpa to be here for it.  Since the weather was so crummy, football was cancelled so we created our own game day in the dining room.

First up, Domino's.
Kellan LOVES to take photos.  When he sees a camera, he likes to pick it up and take copious amounts of photos.  It's fun to see what he comes up with.  This kid may have an eye for photography.

Oliver giving Kellan his best brotherly smile.
Mommy busting out the next game, Monopoly.
Kellan is famous for adding many selfies to the camera.
Monopoly is a serious game for Oliver and Daddy.  Oliver genuinely kicks our butts every time.
Mommy is always up for a fun pose for Kellan.
Ahhh.... Mommy and Kellan.
The players are ready to roll.
Kellan has his game face on.
Grandma has a beautiful camera ready smile too.
Eventually, the games were over and Kellan was back to playing with his legos.
The next morning, Grandma and Grandpa were heading to the airport, but they too a few photos before they took off.
No matter the time of day, Kellan is camera ready and most of the time, Oliver is too.
Grandma and Grandpa selfie.
Thanks for coming to visit, Grandma and Grandpa.  We loved having you here and can't wait for you to come back for another visit soon.

Phoenix Gold Mine

For Grandma and Grandpas visit, we tried to think of something new and interesting to do.  Since Grandpa used to work in a mine in his very early years, we decided to go on a mine tour in Idaho Springs.  We looked at the reviews and the Phoenix Mine came in on top.

As we waited for our tour, one miner let the boys know that they had chipmunks who would let you pet them.  Both boys were excited about this, but especially Oliver.
While they patiently waited, they smiled for a photo.

They never got to touch the chipmunk, but they loved feeding him out of the gold mining pan.

Granda and Grandpa, ready for the tour.
We all marked in to enter on the side of the mountain.
Ready to enter the Phoenix Gold Mine.

There was a funny prop place to take photos.  The guide set up us and then took photos with our camera.  It was great and beat having to pay for a photo at the end of the tour.

The guide was awesome with the boys.  While they got up very close to the gold veins in the mountain he would explain all of the details of gold mining.
The tour was fun and interesting but the one thing that we factored in was that there was snow in Idaho Springs.  We were excited to pan for gold but since the creek was covered in snow and mud, there was no panning that day.  The boys were disappointed, but they got over it as we made our way to Beau Joes pizza.  It wouldn't be a trip to Idaho Springs without Beau Joes pizza.
I couldn't be happier that we have two budding Canadian Bacon and Pineapple lovers in the family.
Granda enjoying his last few bites of Beau Joes.
Back at home, the boys wanted to take out their bikes and ride around a bit.  Kellan knows how to ride his bike but for some reason, he never wants to do it.  In an attempt to entice him, Mommy took his bike for a spin.
I could never be a clown on a miniature bike.  This was hard work!
Kellan was perfectly happy to toodle along behind me on his tricycle, which is his current preference.
Kellan considering taking a spin on his bike.  It's quite stressful, obviously.
Even Oliver gave Kellan's bike a spin.
We had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa.  It was fun to explore something new as well as just hang out at home.

Back to Baseball

After months of practice and our first game being rained out, the Lightning finally got out for their first baseball game of the season.  To top it off, Grandma and Grandpa were in town for the big debut.

Isn't Oliver handsome in his dress blues?
Batter Up!
Can you see Grandpa and Grandma in the Grand Stands?
He Swings, He Hits!

Oliver doesn't mind which position he plays, but he loves playing infield with the action.  The boys rotate each time they go out in the field and this time, Oliver got to play pitcher (well.. kind of).
There is always a fun dynamic in the dugout.
Oliver is #12 this season.

Owen and Chase are Lightning players too.
Up to bat again.
After a few swings, he hits and runs!
Take a look in the grand stands and you'll see Grandpa in the red jacket.

Nothing like being safe on base.
Ready for third base.

Bring the boy home!
Oliver got three times at bat.  Each time, he hit the ball and got on base.

What a fantastic first game of the season.  We always love watching Oliver and his friends play sports.  It's so fun to see them learn, grow and put their months of practice into action.

Way to go, Lightning on your first win of the season!
