For our first fourth of July in our new home, we stayed home to enjoy the local festivities. The Martin family came over, we decorated our rides and we headed off to the community parade.
With the arrival of July, Oliver decided he wanted to learn how to ride his pedal bike that Santa brought him. Just two or three days into his new determination he wanted to ride his pedal bike in the parade. There is no stopping this guy when he makes a big decision like this.
The parade was led by the local fire department and Oliver had the pleasure of riding in the first position before the parade began.
While we were waiting, Kellan and Owen (friends son who also live in the same neighborhood) hung out in the wagon a bit.
Kellan considered hanging out on the firetruck but the first step is as far as he would go.
Oliver was a rock star in the parade. He pedaled his heart out in an effort to learn how to ride his pedal bike. He was a champ!
Cole ditched his ride and jumped in with Kellan.
After the parade we all went to the pool to cool off.
Oliver jumped in the pool over and over.
Owen took on the kiddie pool with a squirt gun while he was surrounded by his Dad Patrick, Keith and his Mom Kristi.
As Owen conquered the kiddie pool Oliver continued to jump over and over...
then he wiped his eyes
... and jumped over and over and over again.
All pool days are much better with a picnic.
Oliver, Kellan and Owen would agree.
We all had a great time splashing around in the pool and eventually the little boys got in the big pool as well with their Daddy's.
After naps back at the house, Kellan showed Owen and Cole a thing or two about the iPad.
We had a great day celebrating our Independence even if we decided Thursday morning when we had to get up for work and school that it was a cruel joke to have a holiday in the middle of the week, but we'll still take it!
