Change Train

We have been trying to teach Oliver the value of money and the fact that we can't just go to the store and buy whatever we want.  We have been trying to teach him that we need money and it doesn't grow on trees. He has been doing odd jobs like picking up his toys, helping with chores, helping with Kellan, etc.  Sometimes, it is as simple as cleaning the change off of our dresser or the simple game of Finders Keepers.  He's had his eye on a prize and it hasn't wavered.  Last weekend, we decided he probably had the $12 plus tax needed for his prize in mind so we counted up his change.  His change was $38.  WHOA NELLY!!

After a trip to Toys R Us for two birthday gifts for friends and one Prize that Oliver had been saving for, Oliver was the proud new owner of a James train that talks and "goes by himself".  He was thrilled to be able to buy it for himself.  The lesson also continued that he could only buy what he brought money for since once we were at the store, he tried to convince his dear 'ol Mom that he needed two toys.  Too bad for Oliver, his Momma is a tough cookie.
