Sporting Sons

This is the deal, we have two young boys and we have officially entered the zone of our weekends being taken over by their sporting events.  Is just the way it goes.

Yes, we are the ones who signed them up to dictate our weekends, but we wouldn't have it any other way.  We love it!

Kellan had his second week of soccer and he is getting used to the idea that he's a player and not a spectator.  He ran and kicked the ball for a full hour.  There was an occasional stop by the sidelines for a snack, but even that was fewer and further between than last week.  Note to self for next week, no snack on the sidelines to create distractions.
A full on tongue curl helps with concentration.
True Statement!

Kellan has a mighty kick, which is fueled by friend power.
It is important to discuss strategy before the kick off.
Kicking off the ball to start play.  Give it a few weeks and we'll have kids crawling on this ball like white on rice.
Always ready to give Mommy a smile for the camera.
Before they called it a day, they each got to make a goal.  Kellan wasn't about to let the coach get the ball from him.

Likely, the highlight is snacks.  The players had a picnic with some sisters.

The morning of being on the sidelines was about the death of Oliver.  While Kellan is learning how to be a player and not a spectator, Oliver is learning to be the spectator and not the player.  He did bring some activities this week, which helped.

By the afternoon, pure Saturday boredom had kicked in.  Oliver was outside with Kellan and I was wishing that Owen lived a tiny bit closer so that they could have an impromptu play date.  About that time, Jennie texted me to see if Oliver could play.  As luck would have it for her (and the boys), we said YES and please bring Owen over hear because both of the boys would love to see him.  It was a Win/Win!

The boys settled in for an afternoon football board game.  I think Kellan was giving Owen the secret ingredient for winning.

Sundays are for football.  They have been for three seasons, so why not make it a fourth.
Oliver was read to dive in and get the ball.
He ran the ball and did awesome getting through the gauntlet of kids.
The gauntlet brings much bigger kids this season.  Check out that kid on the right.  Surely he's in college, he's so much taller than our guys.  Or... maybe you grow a lot from 6 to 7 years of age.  That's more likely.
Oliver had a great run and the Dragons took home another win by one touchdown.  This season is tough and winning games takes much more focus and determination, but they're willing to bring it.

Our weekends are driven by our sons sporting events and we wouldn't have it any other way.  Just to make it a tiny bit sweeter, Oliver is playing a second sport which just started.  You'll have to stay tuned to find out what it is after his first game.

I love the fact that the soccer ball is almost as tall as Kellan's knees are! And I love that his lucky charm in football board games is a winter hat, worn indoors. Kellan is rocking the fashion industry.
