Mom's Christmas Cookies at 99%

HOORAY!!!
It's Christmas Cookie Day!!
The fact is, my Mom makes THE BEST sugar cookies on the planet.  Hands down, the best.   If you've had the pleasure of eating these cookies, you know this to be true.

For years, I have tried to master Mom's Christmas Cookies.  Granted, we typically only make them once a year, so this limits the opportunities.  Plus, we are 4,000 feet higher in elevation.  Everyone who lives at elevation knows that baking is a trick, let alone trying to master Mom's sugar cookies that are bakes 4,000 feet lower.

Maybe the secret will be to have two helpers who are super excited?
It is critical to keep the helpers well fed.
Another trick that my Mom taught me was how to throw down a pu pu platter to please the masses with little to no effort.
You want a pu pu platter?  BAM!  Done!

Kellan is always very interested in a pu pu platter.
"Can we eat it yet, Mommy?"
Oliver was excited AND animated.
He was also sneaky.

Finally, it was time to get to crackin'.

Check out those eyes of concentration on Kellan.
Cracking eggs is serious business that takes a lot of practice.
Daddy walked by and grabbed the camera. Proof that the boys didn't make these cookies alone.

The best part of being a kid making cookies, licking the beaters.
This was new to Kellan and he loved it as much as Oliver.

Another highlight, the actual cookie cutting.
Be careful, when you leave flour on the counter with two little boys, a mess may be inevitable.

The cookies had been mixed, cut and baked.  Mommy called it a day and picked up the next day with frosting.
Oliver couldn't wait to frost the cookies.

Kellan was anxious to try frosting too.
It's always good to stack your cookies three high when you're frosting (so he said).

Proof that someone may have sampled the frosting.
One of Oliver's finished products.
One of Kellan's finished products.

The grand finale... tasting the master pieces.
MmmHmmm... pretty good.
Decisions, decisions.
Take note: The ones saved to gift to friends were in the far back.  The ones that the kids had free reign to were in the front.  Notice which ones Kellan insisted on trying.
At last, he chose one of his own master pieces.
Mmmhhmmmm Lip Puckering Good!

It's official, we're 99% to Mom's Sugar Cookie Greatness.  We were SO excited!!

Keith borrowed a line from our friends Mike and Linda, "You're close, but you probably need more practice."  This translates into, "These are really good and you should make more of these for me to eat."
