Fast and Freezing Flag Football

You know that it was bound to happen.
The weather couldn't stay warm and gorgeous for all eight weeks of football.
It was bound to turn.
When it did turn, it turned Colorado style... fast and freezing!

Oliver pulled on his new Broncos birthday had from Uncle Jeff and Aunt Lindsey and hunkered down in the ten.
As Polar Bears are, our Polar Bears weren't afraid of a little cold.
Clearly their coach wasn't either and he was one of the only nuts on the field in shorts.
Kellan was smiling and after the ball.
Kellan may have been willing to chase the ball on defense, but his interest had diminished in running toward the ball on offense towards a line of scrimmage that got incredibly close.

Cold as it may have been, Kellan hadn't lost any of his enthusiasm for being goofy.  This guy is such a nut.

Kellan took another shot at offense.

The game couldn't get over quick enough and the Polar Bears had their first loss by less than a touch down.
The Polar Bears didn't complain about the cold once.  They were tough until the bitter end.  As the game ended, we scooped up all of our gear and all of our four year olds and sprinted over to watch the Dragons play.  As we were running, Kellan whimpered in my ear that he just wanted to go home.  Thanks to a team effort by all of the four year old Mommy's and Daddy's, we got them snuggled into a tent and in between blankets with iPad's.  These four year olds were ingenious enough to keep the heat on the inside and put their blanket over their head.  These kids may have a future in scouting!

Pictured are Evan and Kellan.  I missed the photo of Emerson being under the blanket.  The kids stayed in this tent for the entire game.  It was a true life saver.
Meanwhile on the field, the Dragons played their first game in the rain!
Rain or Shine, the Dragon's are on fire.
Oliver shimmied left.

Oliver shimmied right.

Oliver bolted straight up the field.
About here, Oliver saw the end zone in sight and he heard the parents cheering, "RUN OLIVER RUN!"  With all of this, he broke into a smile.
I heard from parents down field that the closer to the end zone he got, the bigger his smile got.  He knew that he had it.
He knew it and he did it.
Touch Down, Oliver!
Even if there was a flag pull just over the end zone, Oliver ran it the length of the field for a touch down.
After this amazing play, the camera was put away as the rain continued down and the cold about froze my fingers.  Oliver went on to have several more great plays and the Dragons took home a win.

Way to go boys!  We are so proud of both boys and their teams.  During a day that could have been full of whining and complaining, our boys didn't complain once (except one whimper from Kellan in between fields) and they played like champs.  Way to go, boys!

Your boys are like total football rock stars! I LOVE the action shots of the touchdown-in-the-making. And I love that Oliver stays true to his sense of athletic fashion by wearing his uber-cool Broncos hat throughout the game! And Kellan's snapshots with his hat on sideways killed me with cuteness!
