After a very dry and warm winter, winter arrived in one swoop. The prediction is for 1-2 FEET of snow that started on Thursday night. Friday morning, most schools were closed but Primrose was open. Later that morning, we got the call that they would be closing at 1:00. Oliver couldn't wait to get outside and dive into the snow.

Back to the front yard to get the mail. Near the mailbox Oliver said "Hey, this snow is yellow." Mommy yelled back "DON'T EAT THE YELLOW SNOW!!!" Whew! Quick lesson learned, fortunately not the hard way.

When you're 1.5, you still look cute in pictures with runny nose drip and rosy red cheeks.

What a great way to spend a snow day. We are super excited to see how much snow falls through the night. It's nearly a blizzard out there!

Calcified Tendon? What? What? What?!!!

This past summer I noticed that my right ring finger knuckle was becoming enlarged. I noticed it because the ring that Keith gave me when Oliver was born went from being a bit too big to nearly impossible to get on and off. I asked the Dr about it and she thought it might have been arthritis. Three weeks ago I went in for a physical and they took x-rays of my hand where they found that I had something growing from my knuckle. Two weeks ago I went to the orthopedic Doc and he told me that he thought my tendon was calcifying and turning to bone. This week I went in for surgery and he removed it. Prior to surgery he said that he didn't think it was a big deal but he was glad to remove it for me. After the surgery he told Keith that it was much bigger than he thought and it was good that we removed it. It's always nice to have the Doctor come back to agree that we made the right move. He sent it off for testing but they think everything is fine. After the surgery, Keith brought me home for some couch time. Later that afternoon he went on a Starbucks run for me. Have I mentioned lately how great he is! Without a doubt, he's the cream of the crop!

My hand was covered in iodine up to my elbow. It took me DAYS to get it all off!

Ahhh.... Not too bad. Couch, Chai, an over flowing DVR, a hand that is still numb and some GREAT pain killers.

Of course, Day 2 was a bit harder than Day 1 and Day 3 was a process of transitioning from the GREAT pain killers to Advil so that I could return to work on Day 4. So far, I'm surviving and looking forward to having the big bandage off of my finger and having my hand back to normal. With all of that, I also look forward to wearing my Oliver ring again.

Hamess Weekend 2012

The skis are loaded and we are ready for Hamess (Hamilton and Hes) weekend 2012 in Steamboat.

Look closely and you'll see Oliver's super fast super cute skis loaded up and ready to roll out of town.

The accommodations were perfect for our two families and the "big kids" got a room all to themselves. Evelyn, Oliver and Freddie

First up Friday morning, Stephanie and I took the kids out skiing while the Dad's stayed back with the babies. While we waited for lift tickets Oliver and Freddie enjoyed a snack.

Hey, Hey the Gangs all Here!

After so many runs that we lost track of the count, we went to lunch at Slope Side and Stephanie and I enjoyed a much deserved frosty beverage.

Back at home Jonny was doing his best to wear a path in the staircase.

As we put all of the kids down for naps, the Dad's went out to ski the fresh powder at the top of the mountain.

Friday night we took the kids to a much needed dip in the pool and hot tub. The pool was a big hit with everyone but Mommy was super happy that Kellan preferred the hot tub so that she could join him in the steamy warmth.

What strikes me funny about a family of boys is that people could confuse us as all being naked. EEK!

Bedtime was always a cute time with all of the kiddos.

Keith had the kids rolling during a Dr Suess story. They would all say "He aint lyin'" with a high picked southern voice. Ok, so you would have to be there to find the super cute humor.

Geoff and Stephanie's babysitter came up to Steamboat Friday evening and we got a night out with just us adults. First stop, Dessert and Drink!

Saturday morning we hit the slopes again. Mommy and Oliver are geared up and ready to ride.

First out of the gate, Geoff (front) was available for some pointers for Mommy and Oliver (left).

Right out of the gate Oliver wanted to go faster and faster. However, to cut him loose of his straps he needs to learn to control his speed and stop so that was the goal of the day.

Once again we are back to lots of slack in the straps. He's really getting the hang of skiing. He has naturally good balance and an instinct for controlling his speed.

Even the best skiers crash when they push themselves to excel. Oliver took a few big spills and this time Stephanie and Evelyn were hanging around for the moment. Oliver handled the spills well, got up and hit it again.

Then... there was THE big crash. Just as we approached the final slope before the condo Oliver took off a bit fast, Mommy wasn't quite ready and a crash was inevitable. Mommy coached Oliver to lean forward, hands out front and PIZZA PIE!! It became a bit much so Oliver sat down, which is what Geoff told him to do to stop if pizza pie wasn't enough. He took a big tuck-and-roll header which resulted in a yard sale and a busted edgy wedgy. The busted edgy wedgy was more than this super star could handle. It had been a very long run from the top of the gondola and he was beat. All he wanted to do was lay down and be done. I couldn't blame him, after two days of snow plowing I had similar feelings.

Daddy saved the day and strapped Oliver onto his snowboard so that he could finish the run on a sled.

"Come on, Dad. Keep up, Old Man!"

Once the kids were all cozy in the condo and we grabbed some lunch it was time for us adults to head straight for the highest peak. Carrie and Stephanie were SO happy to rest the over used snow plow muscles to ride on some steeper and deeper terrain.

Keith was thrilled to finally get a chance to ride his new Never Summer Heritage board that he got for his birthday. He said it was "Screaming" fast and you could see the happiness beaming from him.

Saturday night we took the kids to the Western BBQ at the top of the Gondola. All you can eat BBQ, dessert, live music and dancing. YEE HAW!

After a big day the kids desperately needed to refuel. Oliver ate and ate and ate. He knew that he needed a lot of energy for what was to come.

It was SO great to be out for an evening with Oliver and our friends.

Ahhh... signs of a full belly and fuel that is kicking in.

During the Cotton Eye Joe round dance the kids found a new friend and established a round dance of their own in the center of the dance floor.

Just when you thought the Months of the Year song was just a silly dance, the moves came in handy. All it took was a whisper in Oliver's ear that the Macarena was on and it is just like the moths of the year. The boy was On Fire!

As the evening came to an end, the band took a break and the kids turned to some smart phone games. We had an amazing night with friends and we were the last gondola car to leave the mountain. We closed the place down.

The next morning it was all hand on deck to clean up and pack out. Well, kind of. Freddie, Oliver and Evelyn got in one last morning together with a movie even though they knew the risk was high that their eyes would burn out of their heads from sitting too close to the TV. (don't even think about saying we sound like our parents!)

Hamess Weekend 2012 was once again a big success. Each year is more and more fun. Before we know it we will have all five kids on ski's, whopping it up at the Western BBQ and living the rocky mountain high life.

What a Weekend!

After numerous weekends of holiday prep, holiday celebration, house prep, house listing, we took a weekend to have fun Ham Fam style.

What, what, what????

House prep and listing?

By the way... we have decided to list our house for sale and we are currently in search of our next dream home that reduces our commute so that we can spend more time together instead of in the car as well as a place that has a bit more space for our two boys to grow in. There is never a dull moment in the Ham Fam life.

After numerous busy weekends doing too much work and not enough play, we dedicated a full weekend to nothing but fun! We kicked it off with some very last minute Nuggets tickets that Carrie got from work. It was an 8:30 Friday night game. Way too late for Kellan so he had a date night with the baby sitter. A bit late for Oliver, but he rallied like a trooper and loved it! We started with dinner at Brooklyn's where there were so many TV's it was hard to peel Oliver's eyes away. Daddy was willing to peel his eyes away for a quick photo and demonstrate how much fun we were having.

Even Mom broke out a crazy grin for the photo op.

Once the food arrived I saw a glimpse of my future (or maybe present) with boys, appetizers and sports TV.

At the game we had great seats in the MillerCoors suite! They are perfect seats, especially with the kids. No crowds or craziness and always a perfect view.

What would a game be without a big foam finger?!

Plus, Oliver's Rockies foam finger was sacrificed in a sword fight so it was time for a new one. He got to pick a souvenir for his brother too since he had to stay home. He opted for a second foam finger, perfect for another sword fight round.

A court shot of the Nuggets and the Miami Heat. We left after the 3rd quarter and at a quarter to 11. Oliver was a champ and loved it. He was a bit concerned that we left before it was over but he was so tired he wasn't too sad. We listened to the 4th quarter in the car and the Nuggets won!

The next day we were having an open house so we had to vacate for the day. We had a great afternoon visiting with the Stack family while our boys napped at their house. Then it was up-and-at-em for the National Western Stock Show Rodeo!

The rodeo is always a big hit and we love it. We went with three other families; the Stack's, the Martin's and the Wells'.

Cole and Kellan enjoyed a comfy seat on their Dad's laps. This was Kellan's first big event and he loved it. He sat perfectly still for the entire three hours. This gives us big hope for more events in the future.

Owen and Oliver were enjoying the show and sitting next to each other. Poor Oliver really struggled with his allergies though. The dander and dust in the indoor arena was not complimentary to his allergies and asthma and he coughed non-stop. He asked tons of questions and loved watching the rodeo so we told him we would find an outdoor rodeo this summer. He is already asking about it.

All eyes were on the big events of bucking broncos, roping calves, barrel racing, steer wrestling and Mamas favorite bull riding.

After a while we had some musical chairs and Cole and Kellan scored a few seats to themselves.

Parker was a bit less enthused about the events but he did love a little Angry Birds on his Daddy's smart phone.

It is always hard to get good photos of the events but here is a shot of the cowboys getting ready to let a bull rider out of the shoot.

On the way out Mama got her prize, a carnival corn dog.

That night at home, Kellan helped Mommy sort the mail by going through the ads in search of the best deals.

As the evening came to a close, Oliver's coughing had stopped but he still had a shot of the special purple juice (AKA Allergy Med). Kellan desperately wanted to hang with his brother but Oliver wanted his space. Notice how Kellan is laying right on the edge and he has a toe just barely touching Oliver.

Sunday morning we woke up to hear the forecast was a high of 65. We also had been wanting to go to the zoo since we haven't used our annual passes since Kellan was only a few weeks old. We called up the Stack's and they met us there for a tour of the zoo. With the warm January weather, many of the animals were out and about. We were fortunate to see all four of the lions at the entrance. We have missed them at our most recent visits and we were all thrilled to watch them lounge on the warm rocks.

Some may argue that zoo life is no life for a wild animal. However, knowing they have electrically heated rocks to lie on is not a bad gig.

He finally go the hint, let out a yawn and rolled over to go back to sleep.

For our wild bunch we rented the safari jeep wagon. It's $7 and the money goes to help the animals. Plus, we don't have a wagon and if we did, we don't have to juggle it in and out of the car. Another plus, the kids love it and they can get in and out on their own. This was Kellan's first ride in the zoo safari jeep.

On the other side of this glass was four large tigers taking a snooze.

Kellan is all about doing stuff just like his older brother. Since Oliver walked around and jumped up on the ledges to see the animals, Kellan had to as well. Sometimes he was tall enough and sometimes he needed a boost.

Nearly everywhere Kellan went, it was led with a pointing finger followed by jibber jabber about what he saw. To say he LOVED the zoo is an extreme understatement.

Even the polar bear was out for a walk. This picture makes it look like he's miniature and walking on Kellan's head.

This was also Kellan's first (as far as he knows) encounter with a peacock. He instantly wanted to greet the friendly (from a distance) bird.

While Mommy held Kellan back, he chatted up the big colorful bird.

It is not easy to get a front side picture at the zoo and when you do get one it is common to have sunshine squint. Don't interpret this as grumpy face. There was nothing but good times oozing from this group.

As the day continued, Kellan continued to point and explain what he was seeing. What an amazing day of discovery for him. Oliver was also eager to express his vast knowledge of animals, some of which truly amazed us.

We absolutely lucked out with the rhino and hippo. Just after we arrived the zoo keepers did a demonstration with the hippo and we had a front row view. This also brought the rhino out in a fit of jealousy.

Check out all of those kids and the cutest ones are front and center. Oliver and Parker up front and Kellan is just above them in Mommy's arms. Photos like this make me realize how grown up Oliver is getting (sniffle sniffle).

Inside the pachyderm house was the hippos Daddy. He had just had his house cleaned and he was a happy Daddy with some fresh hay.

"Mommy, this is a hippo. He is very large and says Rawr!"

(Ok, maybe it was more like, "Mama, da da gee as Rawr!")

Our last stop before heading home was the carousel. It was our first time to ride as a family of four. It was also Oliver's first time to ride solo without one of us standing close by. Way to go Big Guy!

Football with Friends

If you haven't noticed, not only Denver has Tebow fever, but the entire country! It's hard not to jump on the Tebow band wagon and root for the Denver Broncos, especially when they are playing just down the road (kind of). The Ham Fam is no exception. Their winning streak has us fired up, especially Oliver. He insists on wearing his Broncos shirts. Yes, shirts, plural. He has a long sleeve and a short sleeve which he insists on wearing together. Unfortunately, he has recently had a growth spurt and the two Broncos shirts are now belly shirts, which are completely inappropriate for anyone, especially a four-year-old boy. So... he now has a new Broncos shirt with BRONCOS down the sleeve and a horse figure on the front. Life couldn't get any better, unless he was back to having two shirts to wear.

Meanwhile, the poor second child doesn't have any Broncos shirts. Instead, he has a World's Best Little Brother shirt in blue and orange. It works for team spirit and he really must be the World's Best Little Brother since he doesn't seem to mind that he doesn't have a single Broncos shirt to wear on game day and his older brother can't say the same.

During a recent Broncos victory, the one that clinched a seat in the playoffs, we joined the Martin's for the big game. Their son Cole is only 3 days younger that Kellan and the two of them were not shy to belly up to the snack bar, front and center.

Oliver and Owen have been buddies since nearly day one, literally. They met (if you want to call it that) when they were infants at Primrose. They have grown up together since then but this fall, Owen transferred to a school closer to his house. Fortunately, their two Mom's bonded over maternity leave for son #2 and we get to see the Martin's regularly. Like Kellan and Cole, Oliver and Owen are nearly the same age as Oliver is only 10 days older than Owen. Crazy, eh?!

Any party is a good time when there is personal pizzas in the making. The dialogue probably went something like this.

Oliver: "Owen, this is how you squeeze pizza sauce on the pizza. You have to squeeze it like this, because this is how you do it. Ok?"

Owen: "Dude. You know we're making our own pizzas? It's so cool. Can I put sauce on my pizza? Dude, your sauce is over the edge. Whoa."

(Ok, maybe I exaggerated Oliver's instructions, kind of. I may have also exaggerated Owen's Dude talk, kind of. These two are too funny to listen to)

Ringing in 2012

It's funny how our New Year celebration evolves a bit year after year. Gone are the days of ringing in the New Year with a bunch of other people crammed in a room with loud music, horns to blow, confetti flying through the air and that someone special to smooch as the clock strikes midnight. Instead, we opt for an early dinner surrounded by some great friends, our adorable kiddos, fried chicken and some music with a twang. You guessed it, we met the Stack's, the Stack's neighbors (who's last name I don't know so we're rolling with it), the Metzger's and Bost's at White Fence Farm! Everyone had an excellent time and we were home in time to get the boys to bed and watch a movie!!

Sometime during the course of dinner with our sixteen sweet friends, I looked over to see Kellan giving a stack of cheerios the vacuum treatment. Since his 16 month old hands aren't coordinated enough to stack cheerios, I credit his father with aiding in this super human trick. The encore of laughter from Daddy and Oliver wasn't helping to instill good manners. Well, it leaves Table Manners as something to tackle for Kellan's New Years resolution.

Charlie and Oliver had a great time celebrating New Years together, even if Oliver didn't want to smile for a picture.

Kellan found himself two random balloons that some other kiddo had left behind and after dinner these balloons kept him entertained for quite some time. At one point, a much older girl (all of 5 or 6) tried claiming the balloons but Kellan swooped in to reclaim them and quickly trotted off toward his Daddy who was nearby chatting with the guys.

Kellan also found that an evening chat with the cow was quite entertaining as well.

Many moments later, the balloons are still proving to be entertaining.

Meanwhile, Oliver had found the game room with the Metzger boys. It's amazing how entertaining video games are, even without quarters to put in them.

Just as the Stack's were heading out, I got a quick photo of their last New Years as a family of three. That's right, Short Stack #2 is well on the way.

You just never know what you'll find at White Fence Farm. Sometimes, it's a belt of bells that are waiting to be rung for all to hear, whether they want to hear them or not.

It's a bit of a bummer that this photo is blurry but it does capture the fact that they paused for a split second for a photo. These two buds are like peas in a pod. Just after New Year Charlie is starting in Oliver's Pre-K class and the two of them couldn't be happier to be together again. The teacher... well, she knows she might need to keep these two at separate tables.

On the way home Oliver chatted and chatted while Kellan ooed and awed over the nights festivities.

Keith and I realized that we didn't get a single picture of ourselves together. After many many many attempts, we finally turned the flash off for a photo. Crazy Keith kept closing his eyes with the flash!

Happy New Year Baby! Thanks for another great year. Now lets get these kids to bed before the clock strikes 8:00!

Even thought Oliver filled up on White Fence Farm, he still requested a Little Cutie night cap. We're convinced this kid is about to have another growth spurt, or he has a hole in his stomach. Hungry or not, the New Years celebration may have tuckered him out.

On New Years Day we were busy cleaning up the house, watching football and playing a bit of Ham Fam football ourselves. The boys have discovered that it's fun to tackle each other. Oliver is a sport and (usually) let's Kellan get the best of him. The house rings with laughter from these two crazy kids.

How can you not laugh when your little brother pops up from behind the couch with Mom's lotion bottle between his teeth.

Once in a while Oliver will whip out a random phrase, song or dance move.

New Years Day he had his "Hands on the Roof".

(Mommy tried teaching him "The Roof, The Roof, The Roof is on FIRE!". In return she got a side ways look and Oliver went back to "Hands on the Roof". Kids these days! :)

The weather was awesome so we took the boys outside for some fresh air and sunshine with NO COATS! Oliver also got to take his NEW remote control car outside. Since Santa didn't know that the car his elves made wouldn't go across the carpet and was not a good match for the outdoor world, Mom and Dad had to help Santa out and pick up a new car that was on clearance at Best Buy. Maybe next year Santa will be a bit more in tune.

Oliver took his bike for a spin. He's still trying to figure out the pedals, but he'll get the hang of it before we know it.

Kellan worked on impressing the neighbors with his new walking skills that he has mastered while we have all been inside hibernating. He LOVES LOVES LOVES to walk around and be outside.

2011 was a big year for the Ham Fam but 2012 will be BIGGER and BETTER!

The week between Christmas and New Years was relaxing, crazy, fun and everything in between. Both Mommy and Daddy had to work Tuesday through Thursday so the boys went to school. The normal schedule days between two four day weekends were good and fortunately, quick. The weekends were quite relaxing and the boys (and parents) found it very easy to slide into a habit of sleeping in.

The day after Christmas, Daddy and Oliver tackled the assembly of a pirate ship from Nana and Papa. Auntie Anne jumped in as well and helped with some assembly and stickers. The box read for ages 8 and up. Keith thought maybe it should be for thirty-something and up.

There was a lot of cuddles handed out and Kellan had fun playing in a new hat from Geoff's new employer, Oskar Blues.

Daddy tuned up Oliver's new bike a bit. It comes with training wheels, which Oliver doesn't really need since he's a balance pro on the Stryder. Since the new bike is a bit bigger, Daddy raised the training wheels so that Oliver could handle a bigger bike while he learns how to get up on it.

After much detailed work, the finished product was unveiled.

Daddy had piled a mound of snow in the front yard prior to Christmas for an igloo.

The time had finally come to dig out the living space. The igloo was a big hit for Oliver and the neighbor kids.

While Daddy and Oliver were digging out their new digs, Kellan was kicking back inside with a snack.

During the week there were plenty of good times handed out while we crammed five days of work into three.

Dinnertime is often fun time at the Hamilton house. It is our time to see each other, catch up from the day and have a bit of fun.

Mid-week, Nana and Papa stopped by for dinner on their way to Texas for the rest of the winter. Oliver brushed up his photography skills and took a few snap shots.

Just prior to bed Kellan and Oliver snuggled up with Nana and Papa for a photo. These kiddos are no longer very shy when company arrives.

Then, Oliver was back to taking pictures of a few of his favorite subjects.

By the next weekend, we had many late and relaxing mornings. We may have even had a few that didn't include getting dressed until after lunch.

One morning, Kellan kept a close eye on Mommy's laptop work.

Sure it may be morning, sure we may be wearing our PJ's, but Wow do we love snuggling.

The weekend after Christmas included Operation Christmas Clean-up. Oliver was a HUGE help taking down ornaments and it was fun to spend some one-on-one time together.

Once Kellan woke up from his nap he enjoyed watching the clean-up progress from the comfort of the kiddo rocking chair.

Shortly after Operation Christmas Clean-Up we went into New Years with a smile and a cluck, but you'll have to wait for the New Years post to find out more about that.

Christmas 2011

As Christmas morning approached, there was evidence that Santa had been at the Hamilton house.

Oliver was all set and ready to roll.

Kellan was fixin' to get some good loot.

Even Mom, Dad and Miss Anne had stockings filled with joy.

One thing Santa forgot, was a battery for the one gift Oliver requested at his visit with Santa. Batteries for the remote control car. Thankfully Rite Aid is open around the clock.

The first thing Christmas morning we heard from the foot of our bed where an excited four-year-old was sleeping on his Buzz Light Year bed, "I think there are presents downstairs." As hard as it as, we asked him to wait for us to get up. Then, we took him to peer downstairs as we got his brother up. Anne met us in the hallway and we tackled Christmas morning as a team of five. Right away, Oliver spotted the silver remote control race car.

He was very excited to show us all of its bells and whistled, including wheels that lit up.

He also got a Smurf's movie, which he had been asking about since he got a Smurf's book at his school book exchange.

Kellan was a bit more cautious as this is the first Christmas he has really participated in. His critical first step was a warm bottle. Everything after that was just gravy, including his stuffed stocking.

Kellan was content watching from the stairs with his bottle in hand and his new sock monkey hat keeping his noggin warm.

Eventually, Kellan moved into the action where Oliver helped teach him how to tear into Christmas gifts.

Kellan got a collection of balls from his big brother, which were a hit.

"There must be more in there somewhere."

Kellan found himself with a new tool bench. He enjoyed his cousin William's so much that Santa thought he could use one of his own. Mommy and Oliver kept working their way through the Christmas loot.

As an art lover, Oliver got a new Cars art set.

Sometimes, you just have to take a moment to enjoy your morning coffee and the craziness that two kids bring to Christmas morning that make it so amazing.

Toward the end of the morning Kellan got the hang of unwrapping gifts.

Anne thought about snagging Oliver's new Spider-Man shirt since he wasn't thrilled about receiving clothes for Christmas. (I didn't know clothes lost their excitement so early) After Oliver heard that Anne was going to try Spider-Man on for size he changed his mind and thought it was OK to have a new shirt, especially with Spidey.

The octopus Leap Frog toy was a big hit. We found it on the top gift list for 2011. We would have never guessed, but it's a fan favorite.

Daddy found himself with snowboard boots and bindings to compliment the new snowboard he got for his birthday. Mommy found Apple TV under the tree, which is beyond awesome to connect all of her fun electronic gadgets and boost music throughout the house.

Oliver took some time to read his new book, which he explained that he also has at school.

Kellan really enjoyed the new Old McDonald puppet glove from Nana and Papa.

As always, Kellan is a fan of books and he was thrilled that Miss Anne was up for the task of reading him a story. He was quite smitten with her and even found himself comfortable enough to rest an elbow on top of her head.

What's this? New Wheels?

Oliver got a new bike with pedals. Even though it was not on the top of his list, Santa thought that it was a good gift idea. He must know that Oliver will love it more and more as the snow melts and springtime arrives.

He rode around and around as much as he could. Sometimes, he needed a bit of a push to get started.

If there was a helping hand, Oliver was up for receiving it.

Our Oliver is getting to be such a big boy. The new bike is a bit different than the Stryder that he rules the neighborhood on, but we are confident that he'll have the hang of the Stinger in no time.

Later that day, Oliver took a much needed rest with Smurf's on the DVD player.

Mommy took the Stinger for a spin while we waited for our Christmas dinner guests.

We were so pleased to host the Hess family for Christmas this year.

Jonny and Kellan are only two months apart and each time we get together they seem to stare at each other as if to have mind reading communication skills.

The criss-cross race track was a big hit for the kids as Oliver and Evelyn took a break to smile for the camera.

Anne was an absolute Saint as she cleaned up the entire kitchen. We may be in debt to her for many visits to come. Maybe five kids running around on a Christmas high was too much to handle. For the rest of us, we just rolled with it. No one was crying, whining or bleeding so everything must be great.

A snap shot of the hurricane that went through the living room. Really, there is no sense in getting too excited to clean it up until the end of the festivities.

Everyone had such an amazing time. It really was the best way to end Christmas Day.

After an amazing spread of appetizers and ham dinner, we capped it off with pumpkin pie, wine cake and Tuaca and cider. Can you say YUM?!

Christmas Eve 2011

After a very busy month preparing for Christmas, we took the time to stay home for two days and enjoy the holiday. The morning of Christmas Eve, the boys let the girls sleep in and I found these three cuties on the couch with their reading materials. Oliver with Daddy's iPad, Daddy with his laptop and Kellan with a book.

After a great breakfast that Anne brought from an amazing pasty chef in Fallon, Kellan helped clean up. It's probably a good thing since he is usually responsible for most of the disaster on the floor.

Keith and Oliver spent some time outside building the igloo, which was the talk of the neighborhood. We later found out that the neighbor kids were checking it out while we were away at work and school. Their Mom also threatened them dearly if they dared ruin it. What a great neighbor Mom!

Oliver was in no mood for a photo with the igloo so this is a picture of Oliver crouching in the snow with his Daddy.

Our family tradition is to go to Christmas Eve candle light church service to celebrate the reason for the season. Lucky for us, the church is in our back yard, literally. The girls drove to church since there was snow between us and the church which was not a good combination with our girly heels. Oliver escorted us to ensure that we arrived safely. Daddy and Kellan walked since it was much easier than strapping Kellan into the car seat, which he usually detests. Prior to church, Anne got a great family photo of us.

After church we came home for more Christmas Eve festivities which included Auntie Anne pushing the boys around and around and around in a clothes basket. Oh the fun a clothes basket can provide! The giggles echoed throughout the house.

Then Kellan discovered that Auntie Anne was a viable source for story time. If you have a lap and you're willing to read Kellan a story, he'll be your buddy, instantly.

After an amazing dinner of pork tenderloin and sweet potato risotto, provided by Chef Keith, we let the kids open a gift from under the tree. Since we knew Uncle Jerry was usually good for a great (and usually obnoxious) toy, we steered them in that direction. Once again, Uncle Jerry did not disappoint.

Oliver was very serious about opening his first gift, as he usually is about tasks.

Oliver encouraged Mommy to open the gift he had made at school for both Mommy and Daddy and he took a picture. It was a very cute wreath that he had made out of different shapes.

Behold! Oliver's gift from Uncle Jerry, which included a respiratory work out for Daddy.

Kellan chipped in as much as he could.

I have no idea what these things are called but Oliver (and Kellan) LOVE it! It's like a weeble wobble that won't fall down with Uncle Jerry's favorite team, the St Louis Rams. You can tackle it (which the boys do), wrestle it (which the boys do), punch it (which the boys do), sword fight it (which the boys do) and the list goes on! The only rule is they have to watch where they are playing with it and it's can't take out Kellan in the process.

Kellan helped Daddy open his gift of new Christmas PJ's. Mommy, Daddy and Auntie Anne all got new Christmas PJ's since Christmas morning is always filled with lots of photos. Good PJ's are a must!

Kellan was a bit nervous about his gift from Uncle Jerry, but he warmed up to it. The adults in the house wondered if they had to actually put batteries in Kellan's new Rams Dinosaur.

You see, our nephew Rio has the same toy and it plays a song that is loud and obnoxious. It is one of those songs that will stick with you for DAYS! It could be the Enigizer commercial as it keeps going and going and going. We did put batteries in it, Kellan did warm up to it and it may mysteriously find a new home at the bottom of the toy box. Shhh... don't tell.

The gifts were a big hit on Christmas Eve, as was dinner and the candle light service. As the evening wore down, it was time to prepare for the arrival of Santa Claus. Oliver had placed his order the week before for a silver remote control car. He later realized that he forgot to tell Santa that he wanted a silver bike, so he sent a message with Silly Sam. Now, it was just time to put out the cookies and milk and hit the hay. Oliver's choice for cookies? Warm chocolate chip with whip cream.

The cookies were carefully baked, decorated and placed along side a carafe of milk.

With the quick change into PJ's and elf slippers, the boys snuggled on Daddy's lap for a traditional reading of the Night Before Christmas.

The story is the same, year after year.

Year after year, the magic and wonder grows bigger in the hearts of our boys.

Through our boys, we are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas and the precious gift of life. We also get the pure joy of re-living pieces of our very own child hood and the magic that surrounds Christmas.

With the closing of the book, a tight tuck into bed and visions of sugar plums dancing in our head, we drifted to sleep in hopes that St Nick would soon be here.

Trail of Lights

Friday afternoon, Anne and I stayed inside while Oliver and Daddy went outside to play in the snow. They quickly built our very own Frosty.

Oliver was SUPER excited to have Frosty in the front yard, complete with a black hat and a broom. He was a tad sad that we didn't have a carrot for a nose, but we'll work on that for the next front yard Frosty.

On the other side of the yard Dad dug out a tunnel, which was a HUGE hit! An even bigger hit was the iglo that was built beside it but we didn't get photos of that.

Friday night we met the Martin family for pizza prior to our walk down the Trail of Lights. What a great time we had!

Owen and Oliver met at Primrose where they started together as infants. Owen is only 10 days younger than Kellan. Ironically, Owen's brother Cole is only 3 days younger than Kellan. These two boys have a great time together and they are both very competitive. The regular conversation is who is faster, who is bigger, who is taller, who won the race....

After dinner we headed off to the Trail of Lights at the Chatfield Botanic Gardens. Kellan didn't even make it to the front gate before he had cried his eyes out and Keith took him home for a warm bath and bed. His idea of a good time was NOT strolling through the Trail of Lights in a a mere 8 degrees.

The first stop for the remaining boys; Cole, Owen and Oliver was the fire pit.

We about froze our buns off. (After all of the Christmas calories, I wish it was that easy!) However, the freshly fallen snow did make for a beautiful setting.

The cold temeratures didn't slow Oliver and Owen down a bit. After running laps around us and through the snow, they dove in to make some snow angels at the end of the trail.

Oliver was smiling ear to ear with his round and rosy cheeks.

Within ten minutes, we were defrosting at home. Oliver requested hot cocoa, complete with marshmellows which he added himself.

Oliver was one happy boy. A fun day in the snow, a night with his friend and a night of hot cocoa and marshmellows.

Auntie Anne for Christmas

It has been seven years since Anne has been in Colorado and at that time it was for our wedding so we were unable to be the hosts with the most. We asked her to join us for Christmas this year and she agreed. We were SO excited to have her join us and for her to visit Colorado once again. In typical Colorado fashion, Mother Nature greeted her with a snow storm of over a foot of snow. By noon, the snow flakes stopped falling, Keith had shoveled the driveway and we were ready to welcome her to Colorado, the state of many weather changes.

Anne flew in from Reno, NV and after picking her up from the airport, we headed Downtown Denver for dinner at The Chop House.

We had a great dinner which provided the two of us a chance to catch up and have some girl time prior to embarking on the craziness of the Ham Fam House.

Before leaving the Chop House, we asked the valet guy to take a picture of us. "A" picture turned into a bunch as he took photos from multiple angles. He clearly enjoyed this and told us he had been asked to take a few pictures in his valet career. It was fun to get a few pictures from our evening with the freshly fallen snow.

On our way home, we drove past the court house to admire their amazing display of lights.

On Friday, we had planned to drive to Vail for lunch. It is my absolute favorite mountain town and a 1.5 hour drive on clear roads. With the new snow, we were concerned that we may have delays or traveling difficulties. We had dinner plans Friday night so we opted to forgo Vail for the day (huge bummer) and stay closer to home to explore the sights. Our first stop was just down the road at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The new snow and clear blue skies provided an amazing view.

Even though a crew was quickly removing the snow from the steps to the stage, it was a bit icy so we opted to stay at the top of the theater. We did take some time to tour through the visitors center and explore the history of this amazing location.

Next we drove West on I-70 to the Genessee Exit. This is the same exit that the church is where Keith and I got married. This is also the location of my favorite freeway view in Colorado. Just as you crest the hill, you get an amazing view of the snow capped Rocky Mountains. (see later photos). Also at this exit is a heard of Buffalo that were enjoying some recently served lunch.

Our last stop in the tour was downtown Golden. We had a nice lunch followed by a walk down to Clear Creek. The creek was frozen over with the rocky mountain water flowing below. Again, we had a great view of the brewery. In case you're wondering, my office is basically below the big red Coors sign.

Anne and I had a great day exploring the area. Thank to Keith for juggling the kids while finishing up some final touches for Christmas. The fun doesn't stop here. It's time to bundle up because this evening brought us chills.

Silly Sam

Silly Sam came to us from the North Pole on December 2, 2011. (This is important as it was his official adoption date). Oliver named Silly Sam and he comes to us every day and then flies home to the North Pole each night to report our behavior to Santa. It is always fun to find where Silly Sam has landed and where he will spend his day. The only rule is that we cannot touch Silly Sam or he will lose his magic. He also can't talk to us. Oliver likes to talk to Silly Sam, ask him questions and give him messages to deliver to Santa. We have really enjoyed having Silly Sam join us this Christmas. He will jump a ride in Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve and go back to the North Pole for the next year. We will miss Silly Sam while he is gone but we hope he comes back to stay with us again next Christmas and many more to come.

Girls Brunch

For a few years now, a group of girlfriends and I get together for holiday brunch. This year, we went to Wash Park Grill in.... Washington Park (of course!). We don't have a chance to get together nearly enough and I always love when we do. Every year we say we should get together more often. Maybe 2012 will be that year.

Santa and Sparkling Lights

With only a week to go before Santa was scheduled to arrive at the Hamilton House we went to see him in person to make sure that he had Oliver and Kellan's wish list. They had changed things a bit and they had fast passes with a slated sitting time to help cut down the wait plus they had an elf making balloon candy canes (Oliver requested a sword) for the kids.

Oliver and Kellan marched right down candy cane lane to see the big guy.

Our first photo up was a family photo with Santa.

We thought that it would be a great way to warm Kellan up to Santa. Plus, we could use the photo for our Christmas Card.

(The photos of the boys are still online and due to some problems with the photo company, I still don't have the electronic files. Once I have them I'll post them.) Clearly, Oliver is a pro at visiting Santa. Kellan has a few years to warm up. Oliver sat and talked with Santa and asked him for a silver remote control race car.

On our way back to the car the boys stopped for a ride on a buffalo. You can also see that Kellan lost the yellow portion of his candy cane. It popped. Oops. In the car, Kellan gave Oliver's sword a swing and it popped too. Talk about major crisis.

Since before Thanksgiving, Oliver had been asking for Christmas lights on the house. One day on the way home from school Oliver said to his Daddy, "Look at all of the spirit." (lights on houses). Pulling into our driveway he said in a sad voice "we have no spirit." How can his Daddy deny that?

One week before Christmas, Oliver and his Daddy took on the task to add some Christmas spirit to our house.

They even got an extra stand of lights for our tree so that Oliver could see our spirit from inside of the house. Plus, it was a way to show some love to the tree that lost a branch earlier this fall. If it's true that you should talk to your plants, hopefully a little spirit will help the tree live through the winter.

Kellan even came outside to enjoy the mild winter day and keep an eye on his brother and Daddy.

It can be tricky getting the lights up in the tree.

Low and behold, our warrier has a new sword. When the guys went out for some tree lights they picked up a real toy sword that wouldn't pop. It was a BIG hit and both boys enjoy a sword fight now and then. You know, boys will be boys!

Who says you can't golf in the winter? Kellan thinks it's a fine time to smack a golf ball (and some snow) around a bit.

Kellan's walking has improved in leaps and bounds. If it was up to him, he would be jumping in leaps and bounds too. He gives it a try daily.

Such a happy guy, keeping a close eye on Daddy and Oliver.

Oliver loved being outside working with his Daddy. He's quite the little helper.

It's official. We're ready for Christmas. Santa has our list, he'll be checking it twice PLUS we have Christmas Spirit on our house and tree.

Oliver's Primrose Christmas Party

Two days after Kellan's Christmas party, Oliver had his. We really appreciated that the parties were on different days so that we could enjoy each on of them in their entirety and we weren't bouncing back and forth.

When we arrived, all of the kids were in their places for the big show. Oliver had been practicing the songs sings Thanksgiving. We were excited to see that he had a front row show spot!

To get the kids to be quiet and ready, Miss Michelle asks them to put a bubble in their mouth and their hands in their lap. It worked amazingly well for 20 four-year-olds, plus they were super cute with bubbly cheeks.

The first song up was the drumming song, complete with drum sticks. Oliver had told us before the show that they had to hit sticks together but not too hard or they would break. I wonder how many times they had to hear that they shouldn't hit each other or have sword fights with them.

There were three stations for the kids: snacks, crafts and bingo. Oliver went straight for the snacks.

The room had decorations hanging from the ceiling that the kids had made and we were able to take home. On the back it said

Kellan's Cookie

Sometimes, Kellan is just so cute I have to take a few pictures. He was LOVING the after dinner Christmas cookie. The boys may have been a bit spoiled during Christmas with all of the yummy treats.

Kellan's 1st School Christmas Party

Kellan had his first Christmas party with his classmates at Primrose. He enjoyed plenty of yummy snacks with his buddies in a classroom full of all boys.

The kids had a great performance of Jingle Bells that they had been practicing for quite some time.

The boys all had an art project to decorate a paper stocking.

The kids all exchange books for Christmas. Kellan enjoyed exploring the package and what was inside.

He got a new counting book, which he loves!

Once he was done reading the book he took off with it, to put it away! What a good kiddo. He is also walking regularly now, which made us all discover that he's one of the tallest kids in the class. We had no idea while he was walking on all fours.

Kellan has a great party and it was so fun to be able to experience it with him. It's hard to believe how much our baby is growing up but it is so much fun at the same time.

Early Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa Garner came to visit two weeks before Christmas and we had yet to begin our Christmas festivities. We took advantage of their quick weekend visit to gear up for Christmas and celebrate a bit. The first order of business was putting up the Christmas tree.

Kellan enjoyed a snuggle with Grandma since he was upset that he couldn't play with the Christmas decorations.

We have to use a ladder to reach the very top of the 9' Christmas tree. Oliver wanted to give it a try as well but first, we had to have a ladder safety briefing.

In the spirit of ladder safety, always have a Mommy safety harness when standing on top step. If you're too big to have a Mommy safety harness you probably shouldn't be standing on the top of the ladder.

If you're the Mommy, you can stand on top of the two foot ladder. If you're the Mommy, you make the rules. (there were also a few comments from the peanut gallery that I chose to ignore)

We hung the stockings by the chimney with care.

Then, the biggest event of the season. Keith helped Oliver set up the train set. He had been asking for this train to be set up for 11 months.

Kellan was interested in the progress as well.

Then Grandpa got in the mix to course correct the train that found itself derailed on several occasions.

Grandma bought us some yummy gourmet candy canes that Oliver got to test out.

The next morning we were up and watching the train engineer go round-and-round with the train. The happy little tune just about drove us all crazy.

Sunday we attempted a family photo for our Christmas card. The sun was so bright on the snow that it hurt Oliver's eyes so it was deemed an unsuccessful photo op.

Kellan enjoyed a warm bottle and rest on the couch.

Sunday afternoon (after Oliver went to Charlie's birthday and he took a nap. Yes, it was a very full day!) we broke out our inner Betty Crocker and whipped up some sugar cookies.

Oliver enjoys helping in the kitchen. Maybe he'll be making us dinner soon.

Oliver had his first beater of cookie dough.

Grandma taught Oliver how to roll out the cookie dough in preparation for cookie cutting time.

Even more than rolling the dough, he liked cutting out the shapes.

Kellan was happy that Grandpa was reading him books. Kellan has found a true love of books, just like Oliver.

The cookie process just kept getting better and better as we cut Oliver loose with frosting and sprinkles. Let the inner artist out!

Sunday evening we had an early Christmas celebration with gifts. Since Grandma and Grandpa were here, we let the boys open gifts from them, and they opened gifts from us.

We ended the evening by reading the new books from Grandma and Grandpa.

Disney on Ice

My friend Julie coordinated a night out to go see Disney on Ice and she treated us to seats right on the ice. We couldn't have been more excited! Oliver and I went with Julie, Michelle and Noah. There were not suppose to be any cameras allowed, so I just had my iPhone to take pictures.

The theme of Disney on Ice was Toy Story. It was a huge crowd pleaser.

The characters were up closer and personal.

Some of the characters came by to see us and they were so close we could have reached out to touch them.

The little green men were a personal favorite.

The Claw even made an appearance and it took away Buzz.

Mommy and Oliver at intermission. We had a GREAT time!

What would a night at Disney on Ice be without some (over priced) swag to take home.

Saturday with the Metzgers

The Metzger boys came to hang out with us for a few hours on Saturday and it was a furry of activity. We had received fresh snow, so the boys enjoyed going out with Keith but before that, they had a great time with Oliver's criss-cross race car track.

December kicked off with one snow fall after another. Oliver is a big fan of going outside to help Keith shovel snow. It's nice to be able to suit him up and send him out for a good time. Mommy didn't venture out for good photos since I was inside with Kellan. Besides, it was Chilly Willy out there!

I have a bit more work to do on the In Takes, but I thought I would go ahead and post this for now.

To our surprise, at the end of our visit in Texas we discovered a new function on our camera. Little did we know that the camera would take a small video clip as the photographer was focusing on an object or waiting to take a picture. The video below is what we captured. It is almost like a series of Out Takes from our weekend away. It makes us laugh, a lot!

Everything is Bigger in Texas, Even the Thanks for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is always a time of year that floods us with emotions of all of the greatness that surrounds us that we have to give thanks for. Keith and I have built an amazing family with two amazing boys to fill our hearts with joy. We have jobs we love, a home that is warm and loving and the privilege to travel far and wide. We can't imagine life being any better and we remind ourselves to take the time to cherish what we have and the amazing people that our life is surrounded by.

This Thanksgiving, we took the Ham Fam on the road south to Texas. Keith's younger brother Jeff and his family moved to Texas a over a year ago and we have yet had a chance to visit. Thanks to Oliver and now Kellan, we had a free flight from Denver to Texas. (It is amazing how many miles you can rake in when you're paying for two kids in child care!)

Before we could take flight from DEN to DFW, we had another precious gift fly into our lives. Wednesday morning (Thanksgiving eve) we received an unexpected phone call from our sister-in-law Stephanie that their hopes and dreams had been granted and the baby girl that they had been chosen to adopt was on her way. Three weeks earlier than her due date, our new niece was born and that afternoon she met her family. The Wyoming Hamiltons are now a family of FIVE! She is a precious little nugget of sweetness and I can't wait to squeeze on her!

Fun fact: She is 2/3 the size of Kellan when he was born!

Our original flight was scheduled at 8:00 PM and then United moved it to 9:45 PM. This could have potentially been a nightmare with two small boys when in fact, it was a perfect dream. Kellan worked on walking the length of the airport while Mommy and Oliver played hide and seek from Kellan and Daddy. Oliver and Kellan ran laps of tag around some empty seats and occasionally Mommy and Daddy joined in. We were usually the guppies that Oliver the shark was going to eat if we didn't escape fast enough. The plane ride was a breeze and both boys slept the whole way there. We couldn't have asked for a better trip.

The next morning the boys fell right into playing with their cousin William. William was eager to share his toys with his cousins and without a doubt he was the host with the most.

Feel free to tease the two Hamilton brothers about their coordinating CSU t-shirts. We did!

It is so fun to watch Kellan and William together. Do you think they could pass as brothers or maybe even twins? Maybe because they share the exact same birthday, August 23, 2010 and they were born only 30 minutes apart. I like to tease that it is debatable who is older. William was born first. However, according to the birth certificates Kellan was born first thanks to a time zone difference.

William was thrilled to have his cousins to play with. Once again, Oliver managed to rope a cousin into pushing him around on a riding toy. In the past it has been Lauren or Kaden pulling him in the wagon. Now, he has William pushing him on the fire truck. The kid is resourceful!

William loved pushing Oliver around the house. Oliver was good at keeping them on the right road.

Thanksgiving dinner was amazing! We had ham, turkey and all the fixins.

Oliver was anxiously waiting to eat his fair share of turkey and ham.

William thought it was great fun to sit in his block box. I found him here a few times.

That afternoon we took the boys outside to enjoy some Texas sunshine (and wind) while William took a cat nap.

The boys had fun rolling the ball down the driveway. I've never thought of pavement as being comforting before, but Kellan enjoyed laying his head upon it.

William came out to enjoy the sunshine. Can you tell who is a fair weather kid? Get this kid to Colorado!! (of course, we love that his favorite blanket is compliments of Aunt Carrie and Uncle Keith so we won't tease too much.)

That evening we had a nice dinner (snack) of leftovers. The boys were glued to a holiday classic while Keith gave a hip sashay for the camera.

This was Oliver's perch when we were doing "Special Treat" of a cartoon during dinner.

I always think it's so sweet to see Oliver all cozy.

The next morning the boys were back in their favorite dining positions.

Daisy thought her dining pleasure had tripled!

After lunch, we went to the Fort Worth Stock Exchange for a little Texas flare.

The boys got to test out Jeff and Lindsey's new double stroller.

In Texas, you may find things are bigger. Including the lawn decorations.

Kellan wanted to be with the ponies, but riding the ponies was a bit adventurous for him.

Kellan has a bit of work to do to master his pony riding skills. He did specifically want to ride this little pony though. It was very cute.

This was a great historical building. Lindsey and I talked about how the smell of the old building and the waxed floors reminded us of our grade schools.

Eventually, we decided that we needed to take a different approach to find the long horn cattle so we headed out around the building. Jeff and Lindsey were like private Sherpa's for William (you should have seen William's face of victory) Keith and Kellan were Johnny-on-the-Spot for an around-the-corner scare.

After crawling on the muddy grass, he stood up and walked. Not only did he walk, he strutted a bit and threw his hands in the air in a Ta-Da fashion!

(he started walking at Halloween and then took a few weeks off. Over Thanksgiving he picked up the skill again.)

Oliver was quite concerned that when he "Mooed" at the cows, they did Moo back. I told him they hear it ALL DAY LONG, so eventually they quit responding.

With Christmas only a month away, the streets were lined with festive decorations.

We found it unique that you could enjoy a cold beverage of choice on the street so we opted to support the business that brings home the bacon with a Cold Coors Light. By this time, Oliver was envisioning a cozy nap.

We had such a great time, we were kicking up our heels!

Not everyone was having a good time. This poor cow drew the short straw to put on the Christmas get-up and pose with tourists.

Once we were back home, the boys were back at it. Kellan was chillin' by the fire and William was in his box.

Lindsey and I went out for an errand and we made a stop for a little guilty pleasure, Chocolate Shakes at Chick-Filet-A. Shhh... Don't tell the guys.

On Saturday we went to the Ward's house for lunch. (Keith's cousin Jenni) We had all three boys in the back seat.

At The Ward's house, Oliver loved playing with Luke. Luke is Keith's cousins youngest son. Is that a second cousin? I watched them chase each other back and forth in the back yard and then we I couldn't find them I found them here.

Trish (another second cousin of Keith's) LOVED Kellan and William and spent quite a bit of time with them. Kellan was quite smitten with Trish as well.

Aunt Patty pulled out a 1,000 piece puzzle that Jeff had given her. Rachel, Jeff and Aunt Patty went to work. When Oliver discovered a HUGE puzzle in action, he got in on it too. They said he did great and helped put several pieces together.

Keith and his Aunt Patty. Aunt Patty moved from Sheridan, WY to live with her daughters family a year or two ago. She loves being so close to her family.

In no time, the boys were sound asleep in the back seat on our way home.

That night we hit up a local hot spot, Joe T Garcia.

It was a bit crazy at first. The line is WAY out the door and we almost left in fear of a huge wait with three small kiddos. It ended up that the line moved fast and we were seated fairly quickly (considering the volume of people.) There were two menu choices; a mexican platter or fajitas in chicken or beef. Our table got a variety and they made Oliver an ala cart cheese enchilada. The food was worth the wait! It was great and I'm still craving more! I would have loved to have stayed for sopapilla's but the boys were DONE (like get me out of here, done). Next time. Another request for next time is nicer weather so that we can sit in the courtyard. It looked amazing as well.

I gave the boys this box to play with. I had no idea they were going to put themselves in a corner and fill it up with all of their toys. You just never know what boys will do with a box.

Kellan may have been looking for additional toys to contribute to the box while Oliver was distracted with giving Mommy a nice smile.

Lunch with Jen

Jen and I used to have time to get together multiple times during the week. Over the course of the past several years we gotten married and had babies. With that, our time spent together has become much more limited but when we do get to spend time together, it is that much more special. Thanks to a Living Social Deal, we recently had a three hour lunch and and catch up session. It was the best way to spend three hours with a friend that I could imagine. (Ok, laying at the pool in Vegas may top it, but who's really comparing?)

It's crazy to think that Jen and I have been in Denver and friends for over eleven years. The structure of our lives have changed dramatically but our friendship will always be rooted to our core.

November Novelties

November is a crazy month! It's the transition from fall to winter and from the rest of the year to the holiday season. We tend to have less major events going on and more odds and ends. This November is no different.

Kellan is a puker, he's always been a puker. This may be too much information but it is a fact and that's that. He's been doing well but then he got a case of a stomach bug the first weekend in November. This brought all of our plans to a screeching halt and we were home bound for two days. Kellan also likes to mimic our actions (especially Oliver's). Mommy cleaned up the floor and then laid a towel on it so that we wouldn't walk in the wet spot. The towel kept getting moved and I discovered that Kellan was moving it when he was mimicking Mommy cleaning the floor. Ahh... thanks for helping buddy!

Sunday is Bronos football day. For the record, since Oliver has been wearing both of his Broncos shirts at the same time, they have won every game. He LOVES wearing the Broncos shirts and he loves to watch (kind of watch) the games. He likes to predict which team will win and he usually goes with the animal he prefers. I never realized that so many teams were animal oriented until Oliver started learning about the sport.

I tried and tried to get a cute photo of the boys in the basket but Oliver kept closing his eyes.

So Oliver tried really hard to keep his eyes open and his mouth opened at the same time. Maybe this is like when women put mascara on and they can't physically do it with them mouth closed, very well.

Sometimes the boys just like to sit on the stairs after school and have a snack.

Sometimes they just like to throw things around, even if it's their snacks (OK, so technically this is Oliver's Halloween candy that was more fun to throw than eat) The most fun occurs when Mom or Dad play fetch and give their throwing objects back to them. It only takes a few times (maybe a few too many times) for Mom and Dad to figure out their scheme.

Pumped up Kicks

The Hamilton House enjoys a good dance party every now and then and our latest song of choice is Pumped Up Kicks. Dance Party's are a great way to burn some energy, get some exercise, spend time together and rock out to some of our favorite music. Oliver gravitated toward Pumped up Kicks in two seconds flat. The lyrics may not be the most appropriate for a four year old but we roll with it. (It could be a whole lot worse I suppose) It gives Daddy a great opportunity to explain fire arm safety, animal hunting tools, etc. I'm sure the song of the month will change with the calendar but for now, we're Pumping up our Kicks. (And... pumping up our knee kicks in front of the fire place with some good finger pointing director hands.)

Every year Oliver gets more and more involved with carving pumpkins.

With an Engineer as a Daddy and an engineer structured brain on Oliver, even carving pumpkins is a serious matter.

Halloween was on a Monday evening so we came home from work a bit early to enjoy the festivities. Spider Man and Sock Monkey were ready to rock the neighborhood.

Ahhh Even Spider Man and Sock Monkey love each other like brothers.

We have spent the last couple of years with the neighbors prior to trick-or-treating. We have a pizza party and then hit the streets after a quick photo of the kids. When I mean quick, I mean quick. We placed Kellan, took the picture and then he was off.

Fun fact: Brooklyn's parents moved in a few months before she was born and she is two months older than Kellan. The fun fact? If we were having a girl she would have been named Brooklyn.

Now that Oliver is four, he is able to keep up with the bigger kids. Plus, the bigger kids were great at keeping track of Oliver along the way. They are the best neighbor kids ever!

It cracks me up how much shorter Oliver is but he's right there in the mix, ready to get candy.

Trick-Or-Treat!

Hey, this house looks familiar.

It was SO familiar that Oliver stayed back a bit and picked out his own candy. Maybe because that is Daddy handing out candy.

Not much later Oliver called it quits and headed home to inspect his loot. How does Spider Man eat if he has no mouth? He rests his mask on his forehead and enjoys his first treat, a box of Dots.

WHOA! Oliver was SO excited to have fruit snacks in his bag.

Check this out! The neighbor lady gave him a great new set of eyes.

Kellan wasn't shy to inspect the loot. Maybe he was building up energy for his Halloween Trick.

Just before we turned out the lights, we got one last look at the pumpkins.

Oliver had a yogurt smoothie snack and it gave him big muscles and a moo-stache.

Date Night - Over Night

Keith and I have yet to leave the boys over night. The only time we have left any of our kids over night was in 2009 to go to Las Vegas and we flew Grandma Garner in to stay with Oliver. Thanks to our amazing friends the Hess', they inspire us as parents. We took the plunge and asked the baby sitter to stay over night. If Geoff and Stephanie can do it with three kids, surely we can manage leaving two kids. So... we did it. She arrived at 5:00 so that she could feed the boys dinner. We jumped in the car and headed downtown. First up, we went our for an amazing bruchetta appetizer and a drink.

After our happy hour, we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt in Downtown Denver.

After sprucing up a bit we were ready to hit the town. Carrie is ready to roll.

Keith is quite handsome and ready to hit the town as well.

On our stroll down 16th street we noticed a significant sign at the top of a building.

Ashford!

We made it to Larimer Square.

We opted to go to dinner at Rioja since we had been wanting to try it. We called and they said if we were there in 30 minutes they might be able to squeeze us in.

Ahh... the happy couple on Date Night - Over Night.

We settled in at the bar while we waited for our table. They had a kitchen bar seat that they were waiting to open up. It over looked the kitchen and we could watch them prepare the meals.

After a short wait the waiter came to us with a top secret proposal. He had a booth open up and we could have it if we wanted it. Well... since it was so top secret, we jumped on it!

The food at Rioja was A-MAZE-ING!

We started off with this appetizer that was like a Lays potato chip. You couldn't eat just one bit.

But the question was... how do we take the first bite?

Keith dove into it with a knife and fork and we made it into bite size pieces. It was So Delish!

For the main course Keith opted for pork chops and I had salmon. The salmon was sushi grade. The pork chop was tender. The best part of the whole thing was Keith's side dish, cheese tater tots with a sour cream and chive sauce. Of course, all of the food had much fancier titles than I just described but this is my interpretation. The tater tots were so amazing that we drooled over the though of them for days to come.

For dessert, we couldn't decide between the cheesecake (left) and the chocolate mouse (right). We finally opted for the mouse. The waitress was so great that she brought us both. Oh yeah... she knew she would be greatly rewarded!

For a second (or third) dessert, they brought us sugar crystallized mint leaves. It was an odd concept but actually quite refreshing.

When we got back to the room, Keith has surprised me by ordering wine and strawberries (Champagne was another option but it was not my first option. He knows I'm more of a red wine girl. Ahhh!! What a sweetie!) We expected big juicy strawberries. Instead, we got strawberry compost. Maybe it would have been good in the champagne but with wine, it wasn't the same. We just laughed and took a picture.

The next morning we texted the baby sitter and she said everything was great, so we went to breakfast.

Before we headed out we took a photo of our room with a view from the 24th floor.

We thought we were staying at a different Hyatt that has amazing views of the mountains. Since we were confused on our location, we asked for a mountain view. This is the mountain view from this Hyatt.

It would have been a great day for a view of the mountains. Next time, we'll get the right location.

We had a great 17 hours without the direct responsibilities of kids. Kellan struggles to sleep through the night and we finally got a night of undisturbed sleep. (Fortunately, he chose this to be a great night to sleep all night just for the baby sitter. We were quite relieved.) We had such a nice time and the baby sitter enjoyed it as well so we decided that we'll have to do it again sometime. Maybe, sometime soon!
